The Metasploit framework (MSF) is a powerful collection of scripts and modules used by many security professionals to find and verify vulnerabilities in a streamlined fashion. Within MSF, numerous tools can be used for intelligence gathering, scanning and exploitation, while keeping results organized, searchable and exportable. In order to get familiar with Metasploit, we will go over some of the core options and functionality while performing tests on a dedicated target. In this DC305 Meetup we will show how to:
Configure: Learn what services can enhance your work. Start up the framework console, setup a workspace and navigate in the sea of options.
Scan: Use different tools to find the target, gather a list of available services and any other information that can be used to plan your next move.
Explore: Find out what information is important, how to search for exploits and how to choose the correct module for the moment of truth.
Exploit: Use the intel you have collected to prepare the exploit, dive in and learn about Meterpreter, an advanced dynamic payload that enables various post-exploitation modules.
